Using Premium Plugins & Themes in your Blueprints

A lot of new WaaS Partners envision building their blueprint products using premium plugins and themes. This is a great idea, and our aim with Dollie is to make it as easy as possible for you to do so. With our update manager you're able to batch update any plugin (including premium ones) by simply uploading the zip file and updating one or multiple sites at once via our Control HQ dashboard.

When using premium plugins and themes, it's important to consider the licensing implications. Most premium plugins and themes are licensed under the GNU General Public Licence (GPL) for use on a single site. This means that if you're building a WaaS product, you should purchase a license for each site you deploy. While technically the GPL allows an end user to "utilize, modify and distribute the software (and any ‘derivative’ works)", in practice, most premium plugin and theme authors do not permit their licences to be active on multiple live sites, and may block your license if you are found to be exploiting this.

Our recommendation at Dollie is to respect the licensing terms of the plugin and theme authors. We recommend that you purchase a license for each site you deploy or get a license for multiple sites.

That being said, it is the partner's responsibility to ensure Plugins & Theme licencing agreements are being adhered to appropriately.
